God Showed Up

I haven't participated in a Thankful Thursday post in a while, but this week our hostess, Lynn, asked us to share a miracle that the Lord revealed to us. In her post, she shared how God had miraculously provided for the needs of a friend whose husband has been unemployed for two years.

My husband has faced unemployment on more than one occasion - the most recent being earlier this year. During those times, God always provided for our every need. We never failed to pay a bill, always had food on the table, and food, clothing, and shelter. However, the time I chose to share this week was when my husband was hospitalized for cancer treatments.

Some of you know that eighteen years ago my husband suffered two bouts of cancer - two years in a row. While we had excellent health insurance, he was unable to work for almost six months one year, and the next year another four or five months. He drew a disability check from his job, but the amount was nearly half of what he was accustomed to bringing home each week.

Again, God showed up and provided for our every need. John was discharged from the hospital after a twenty-four day stay for chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant. It was another three weeks before he was able to return to work (that in itself is another miracle, as most people are so weakened from the treatments it often takes several months to recover.)  He was happy to return to work and the regular paycheck certainly helped. However, our semi-annual car insurance payment was coming due and we didn't have an extra $300.00 at that time.

One evening, we heard a knock on our front door.  It was one of our church elders and his wife. The small congregation where we attended had taken up a love offering and they came to bring us a check. You can probably guess the amount--$300.00! God showed up.

I can't begin to count the number of times that God has provided for a need in our lives. I'm often guilty of doubting and I let fear creep in. However, He has never failed to provide in times of need.

Do you have a time to share when God showed up? I would love to hear your stories and be sure to stop by Thankful Thursday to read what others have shared.

Brings tears to my eyes. As my husband and I go through this time of unemployment your words of faith and testimony to God's faithfulness encourage me. I saw God provide in miraculous ways for my parents during my childhood, checks in the mail down to the penny that was needed, neighbors showing up with food, etc. Those childhood experiences have strengthened my heart for this journey I'm on as an adult.

This was wonderful, Joan. I know that God shows up every moment of every day. I just happen to love the stories when he does it so conspicuously.

LOVED this!

Hi Joan - God has also provided for us in so many ways - especially in ways you least expect - and then you just know, its God. When I look back over a trial we've been through, all I can see is how the Lord lifted us, and provided for us and protected us, through His grace and His mercy. God is good - all the time!
God bless
Tracy

He is incredible - as are His people (like this congregation) when they allow Him to use them.

I felt led to go from full time to part time employment almost 2 years ago due to the fact that my Dad was in poor health and my mom was needing extra help with him and my aging grandparents. Not to mention my daughter had just started elementary school and I felt like I was not being as available for her as I needed to be.

My husband was not really excited about the decision. He was so used to our two incomes. But I told him that I was only doing this because God had put it on my heart and I didn't know what else to do but obey. He reluctantly agreed and we received unexpected income from about 3 different sources that week. That shut him up! =) Thanks Lord!!

This was a great post and reminded me of the times God has shown up in many ways over the years. I think any time I was backed into a corner or down to my last dime, I depended on Him more and He always showed up and took care of everything! We need to depend on Him more and trust Him completely.
